Catholic Relief Services
Catholic Relief Services
(CRS) is the official overseas humanitarian agency of the U.S.
Catholic community. It alleviates suffering and provides
assistance to people in need in more than 100 countries, without
regard to race, religion or nationality. CRS has been working in
Haiti since1954. Today, it works in partnership with the Haitian
Catholic Church, the U.S. Agency for International Development,
Caritas Haiti, the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, TB and Malaria,
UNICEF, and local Haitian agencies. To learn more about CRS'
work in Haiti, go here.
Event Details
Our university's institutional partnership with CRS
is offering faculty an opportunity to visit Haiti, and view the country
through the unique lens of CRS, the church's Non Governmental Agency.
For 6 days, through site visits, meetings, and
seminars, faculty will:
- be exposed to the complex conditions, specific
challenges and genuine possibilities for development in Haiti;
- learn about
and observe how CRS approaches holistic, integral development programming,
informed by Catholic Social Teaching; and
- meet CRS staff and observe
programming addressing poverty; health and nutrition; agriculture;
education; water and sanitation; emergency response; HIV and AIDS; social
safety net; and civil society, justice and human rights.
Trip Purposes
- Strengthen
research and teaching at Villanova, particularly as they relate to global
poverty.
- Promote solidarity with the poor and marginalized, in keeping with
the Catholic and Augustinian mission.
- Strengthen and expand the
university's partnership with Catholic Relief Services.
Application

of, integrating this experience into their research, teaching,
